Mohammad Numan war einer der Sprecher des Refugee Protest Camp Vienna und studiert jetzt an der Akademie der bildenden Künste conceptual art bei Marina Grzinic.

Nasim Lomani ist Aktivist und Bewohner des City Plaza Athens, eines selbstverwalteten und solidarischen Refugee-Projektes in einem besetzten Hotel im Zentrum von Athen.

Monika Mokre ist Politik- und Kommunikationswissenschaftlerin und beschäftigt sich mit Formen der Solidarität in zeitgenössischen Demokratien und der Bedeutung von Kunst für Demokratie und Wissensproduktion.

Public Seminar - Resist and Occupy

In 2012, refugees established widely visible protestcamps in the Sigmund Freud Park and later in the Votivkirche in Vienna, as well as on Oranienplatz and in the Gerhard-Hauptmann-School in Berlin. In the city center of Athens, the formerly vacant Hotel City Plaza was occupied in 2016 by refugees and activists. Since then, Hotel City Plaza reveals how decent living and arrival structures can be self-organized. The hotel offers shelter and a home for 400 people, who cope with daily life on the basis of mutual solidarity and donations. Their demands and actions are part of a broad urban social movement. Their fight for the "right to the city" (Henri Lefebvre) produces new forms of action for a future, post-Babylonian urban society - and far beyond.

Mohammad Numan was one of the speakers of the Refugee Protest Camp Vienna and is now studying conceptual art at the Marina Grzinic class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

Nasim Lomani is an activist and resident of City Plaza Athens, a self-managed and solidary Refugee project in an occupied hotel in the center of Athens.

Monika Mokre is a political and communication scientist. Her work investigates forms of solidarity in contemporary democracies and the role of arts and culture for democracy and knowledge production.

The Public Seminar Place Internationale Vienna by Social Design Studio, a department of the University of Applied Arts Vienna, for 7 days opens up a public space of teaching and learning for a post-Babylonian urban society: from the Tower to Babel to the Refugee movements, from the Paris Commune 1871 to today's struggles for a ,Right to the City‘, Jochen Becker / metroZones (Berlin) together with international guests, invites you to explore post-Babylon as a place of speaking in many tongues, in order to achieve common knowledge, articulation and action.
